Our Activ8 students were given a fantastic opportunity to develop their leadership skills earlier this week at the Oldham Ability Leaders Day 2016. The event was held at Oldham Sixth Form College and focused on giving our young people the necessary skills and focus to lead disability events and fixtures.
We would like to thank Steve Ferriss and Oldham Sport Development for organising the event and Oldham Sixth Form College for hosting it!
We had a fantastic day and it was a great opportunity to meet people, clubs and organisations in the community where our students can volunteer and coach.
The group also took part in competition planning and looked at how to effectively plan events and run fixtures, basic officiating and refereeing.
Mrs Tootill also led part of the training to the other group, so New Bridge was represented both ways with Activ8 participating and Mrs Tootill passing her experience to students from other colleges!
We were thrilled with how much experience and new skills Activ8 were able to gain from the day. The students undertook the Active Kids 4All Training, a recognised accreditation in leading sessions and adapting them for all abilities. Activ8 are already putting their training to good use and working on how to adapt certain sports using the STEP principle they learned – as you can see from this morning’s pictures at school..
We’re very proud of our Sports Leaders – watch this space for more news soon 🙂
