Activ8 is a Sporting Pathway for pupils in Year 10 and above to look at vocational and academic opportunities in sport.

Pupils taking this pathway will be engaged in participation, competition and leadership opportunities. They will be taking part in a variety of roles such as officiating and refereeing as well looking at the academic side of PE through the GCSE PE course and leadership programme. Pupils will also have the opportunity to develop their skills through the use of outdoor education in a variety of terrains and experiences. They will learn through both practical and theory aspects of sport and PE.

Pupils will study and develop leadership skills, gaining knowledge of the organisation of sport by working with other external agencies and working in and around the community, as well as within the New Bridge organisation. Pupils will also acquire external national governing body qualifications and first aid. They will be asked to participate in a variety of sports and swimming and outdoor and adventurous activities such as rock climbing and canoeing.

Pupils will have access to the short course GCSE PE and OCR Entry Level Certificate, National Governing Body qualifications, Sports Leaders UK Level 1 and 2, FA Young Leaders and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.

Pupils who undertake the Activ8 Pathway will enjoy sport and PE with a view to looking at a possible career in sport and the leisure industry. Pupils will be asked to wear the appropriate sports leadership kit and be prepared to experience work outside of school in the local community, as well as help to organise festivals and participate in out-of-hours school sport.

We will be asking pupils to look at what makes a good leader and examine their personal attributes. Pupils who undertake this pathway will need to sign up to a sports leader contract. We will be looking at a variety of sports and will be expecting students to experience all sports and activities in a variety of environments.
