The 8th Oldham New Bridge Scouts was formed 3 years ago and has been very active since then. The group draws upon the Scouting experience of Wendy Brierley, Group Scout Leader, and the staff that comprise the rest of the Scout leadership to open the world wide family of Scouting to the pupils of New Bridge School.

The group is very popular and new places are snapped up by pupils when they become available. We have recently expanded and created an Explorer Scouts section.

Our residential to Lytham St. Annes was a great success. All the Scouts took part in archery, shooting, climbing and outdoor skills as well as cooking their own food. Our Scouts have enjoyed completing the challenging requirements for several activities and have achieved badges including Fire Safety, Arts and Crafts, Communication and Circus Skills. We have also been cycling with ‘Wheels for All’ and every Christmas the entire group has dinner at Frankie and Benny’s followed by Ten Pin Bowling.

The group has plans for a return visit to Lytham St. Annes and then a summer outdoor camp. The group Scout leadership intends to support as many of our Scouts as possible to gain their Chief Scout Award, the pinnacle of effort and achievement for Scouts.
