Wheelchair football is a competitive team sport, played in a gym or on a regulation basketball court, for people with disabilities who use power wheelchairs. Staff and students from New Bridge School have been coaching and taking part in wheelchair football sessions on evenings and at weekends for over 3 years. Their hard work and commitment has not only had a great impact on our own school community but has opened the sport up to young people with physical impairments across Oldham and Greater Manchester.
Manchester City FC launched ‘power chair’ football sessions as part of their ‘One City’ disability sport programme and you can see our staff and students taking part in the launch event in 2013 on Manchester City’s website here.
In October 2014 Manchester City received new funding to enhance the CITC disability sport provision and their very own Frank Lampard took part in one of our wheelchair football coaching sessions which was featured in a special documentary on their work.
